For the interest of any member wishing to become a
Certified Rug Hooking Teacher listed below are the requirements. Those who
are interested should contact Diana Dove, 596-0907. If enough people are interested the teacher group will request the Rug Camp
Director to offer the Teacher Training Course.
Guidelines for Certification
The applicant shall have been a member of the Rug Hooking Guild of
Newfoundland and Labrador for a minimum of three years before submitting the
initial application for teacher certification.
| Required Courses: |
- Beginner Class (not necessarily given by RHGNL)
- Teacher Training Class
- Any two other RHGNL Rug Camp classes (min. 18 hr. each)

| Required Hooking: |
Three fully completed hooked pieces of your own work representing
courses taken in any three of the following areas:
- Traditional Newfoundland (primitive)
- Fine Shading
- Rag-a-Jack (poked mat)
- Hooking with Hosiery (Northern Style)
- Dye and Apply (complete dyeing for piece yourself)

| Teaching Duties: |
- Assist another teacher with at least one class (min. of 6 hr. class) ;
- Write up a course outline and lesson plan for the same

| Submissions: |
When all requirements have been met, notify the committee who will
arrange a meeting for you to submit certificates, hooked pieces,
course outline and lesson plan. |
Note: if all requirements are not met within three years, candidate
must re-submit application.
